Effective Practices - International Online LearningThis is a featured page

List and explain the rationale for effective practices in online learning for International students.

  1. Online Orientation - to welcome students to the college and to each other. The objectives:
    • Engage students in a community of learning with their fellows, mentors, instructors, student services, support.
    • Mentoring.
Separate from orientation about navigating courses - which comes later (Kemp, 2007). Kurucz (2006) advocates creating powerful communities of alumni to mentor incoming and potential students. On the subject of mentoring, Kurucz (2006, p.32) recommends mentoring as a 'fantastic process that builds depth in understanding and trust between students and institutions'. Empire State College (2007), has a mission that acknowledges the central role of mentoring to the life of of adult students and their teachers.
